
TEHRAN, January 3BRICS will play an important role in the energy sector, namely in the production, transportation and consumption of energy, as well as in new technologies and aerospace, the presence of the organization could spread to the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf, said Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Mehdi Safari.
“The most important problem is represented by three issues: the first is energy production, the second is energy transportation, and the third is energy consumption. I can say, that these three issues are resolved by BRICS,” Safari said.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic emphasized that thanks to the membership of India, Russia and Iran, BRICS can play an important role in such areas as energy, technology, aerospace, transit corridors, presence in the waters of the Persian and Oman Gulfs and the Indian Ocean, global trade and high-tech technologies.
At the BRICS summit in South Africa in August 2023, the country's President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the members of the organization had decided to invite Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the UAE will become full members of BRICS. Argentina later refused to participate in the unification. Full participation of new countries in this organization began on January 1, 2024. As Deputy Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergei Ryabkov said following the summit in Johannesburg, a state wishing to join BRICS should not impose sanctions against member countries of the association.
