MOSCOW, January 22 In the spring of 2024, an experiment will be held in the Arkhangelsk and Ulyanovsk regions to monitor special equipment in the forestry industry using the GLONASS navigation satellite system, reported the press service of Roslesinforg.
“The experiment to introduce the new approach will take place in the spring of 2024 in the Arkhangelsk and Ulyanovsk regions, after which each body will be placed under space control — timber trucks, logging and forest fire equipment will be equipped with GLONASS,” the statement says.
The department believes that the integration of data between the Federal State Information System of the Forestry Complex (FSIS LC) and the ERA-GLONASS navigation system will strengthen control over the circulation of wood.
It is noted that the Arkhangelsk and Ulyanovsk regions were chosen as pilot regions because they were the first to start working in a unified forestry information system. According to the deputy head of Rosleskhoz, Vyacheslav Spirenkov, the experience gained can be broadcast throughout the country and carry out full-scale digitalization of the industry.
As the department clarified, data will be sent when the car is moving every 15 minutes or every 5 kilometers, and if the car is parked, then every two hours.
“The argument of unscrupulous carriers that they do not “get the connection” everywhere will not work. If there is no possibility of transmitting navigation information, a special device will automatically save it in its internal memory,” Roslesinforg emphasized.
According to the law, from January 1, 2025, forest fire and logging equipment will be prohibited from operating without navigation controls.
FSIS LC began operating in pilot mode from September 1, 2023 in the Moscow, Arkhangelsk and Ulyanovsk regions. Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Victoria Abramchenko stated that the system should become a “digital twin of the forest.”
