BEIJING, Jan 23 Six people injured in Xinjiang Uyghur region autonomous region in northwest China after a magnitude 7.1 earthquake, Xinjiang Daily reported on Tuesday.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 occurred in Wushi County (Uchturfan), Aksu County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Tuesday at 2.09 local time (Monday 21.09 Moscow time), the source was located at a depth of 22 kilometers. By 8.20, seismologists had recorded 43 aftershocks with a magnitude greater than 3 and a maximum magnitude of 5.3.
After the earthquake, local authorities immediately began implementing an emergency plan, sending fire, medical and communications services, a total of 236 vehicles and 1,055 personnel to the affected areas.
According to the latest data, two people were seriously injured, four more were slightly injured, 47 houses were completely destroyed, 78 were damaged. Electricity, water supply and heating have already been restored in the affected settlements.
