MOSCOW, February 8Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, answering a question about the possibility of confiscating German assets in response to Rosneft subsidiaries, said that the Kremlin does not rule out anything to protect the interests of the Russian Federation.
The German government is taking steps to nationalize subsidiaries «Rosneft» after transferring them under the external management of the German Federal Network Agency. In turn, Rosneft filed a constitutional complaint with the Federal Administrative Court of Germany against the transfer of its subsidiaries to external management.
«We do not rule out anything to protect our interests and to counter the illegal steps that we are talking about,» Peskov said , answering the question whether retaliatory actions to seize German assets by Russia are being considered.
“No, negotiations are not ongoing between Moscow and Berlin, if you mean the state or government level. We have no contacts. But nevertheless, the company, of course, protects its interests, using the entire arsenal of legal means that are possible for this,” — Peskov told reporters.
He added that “this is corporate protection.”
“But on the other hand, of course, this is nothing more than the expropriation of someone else’s property. These are all steps that probably undermine the economic and legal foundations in European countries. These are steps that absolutely devalue the investment attractiveness of these countries and, of course, have , very deep consequences for those who make such decisions,” Peskov said.
We are, according to him, primarily about legal consequences, image consequences “and, in the end, economic consequences.”
When asked whether the scenario of exchanging Rosneft shares was being considered in this situation, Peskov replied that “this is a corporate issue.”
The German government is taking steps to nationalize Rosneft subsidiaries instead further extend their external management, introduced in September 2022. Rosneft is trying to challenge that decision; in December it filed a constitutional complaint with the Federal Administrative Court of Germany against the transfer of its subsidiaries to external management.
