Analysts and Western officials believe that by March, Ukrainian troops may find it difficult to carry out even local counter-offensive operations, and by the summer they will have difficulty trying to repel Russian forces. Without new US assistance, it is difficult to imagine how Kyiv could maintain its position, the publication adds.
US Senators previously proposed a compromise budget bill providing for the allocation of $118.3 billion to help Ukraine, Israel and resolve the situation on the southern border. It was drafted in response to Republican demands for funding to address illegal immigration after they used the border crisis as a pretext to block discussion of the administration's requested aid to Ukraine.
The Senate compromise document drew sharp criticism from Republicans in the chamber, who consider the proposed measures insufficient. As an alternative step, congressmen prepared their own document to allocate aid to Israel in a separate package in accordance with the $14 billion previously requested by US President Joe Biden. The White House promised to veto the document if adopted.
