Updated Nissan Juke: improved ergonomics and new top-end N-Sport trim level

Nissan has presented a restyled subcompact crossover Juke of the second generation. The appearance and technology remained the same, but the interior received many design and functional updates.

The second generation Juke debuted in 2019, today it is a purely European model, localized at the British Nissan plant in Sunderland. In Japan and the USA, the Juke is no longer officially sold; in other markets, Nissan offers the Kicks subcompact crossover instead of the Juke. Last year was a very successful year for the Juke, its sales in Europe jumped by 66.1% to 80,149 units compared to sales in 2022. (this is data from Nissan itself), but it is still far from being the leaders of the segment: the VW T-Roc in 2023, according to the analytical agency Dataforce, sold 206,438 units in Europe. (+14.1%), Toyota Yaris Cross — 176,685 units. (+29%), Ford Puma — 159,778 units. (+16.6%).

The restyling is intended to make the Juke more comfortable, so all the new things are concentrated in the cabin. However, the color range for the body has been expanded; “at the request of the workers,” the bright yellow color has returned, and the design of the rims has also been updated. In the new top-end N-Sport trim, a bright yellow squiggle to match the body has been added to the front panel — it seems to create a cockpit effect around the driver. Also in the N-Sport package, there are bright yellow inserts made of recycled Alcantara on the seats, and the stitching used in the trim is also yellow — it turned out to be colorful. In general, the finishing materials, as promised by the Nissan press service, have become more pleasant to look and feel.

Other updates include a redesigned center console with two elongated air vents instead of the previous three round ones, a 12.3-inch multimedia screen instead of the previous 8-inch one, and a 12.3-inch instrument screen with updated graphics. The multimedia screen is angled 8 degrees towards the driver to enhance the cockpit effect and facilitate access to the rear.

The central armrest between the front seats is now asymmetrical, its reach on the driver’s side has increased by 25 mm, and the bevel allows for easy access to the cup holders. The center armrest cover is still liftable (there is a storage box underneath it), and a credit card clip has appeared on the back side. An electromechanical handbrake is now included as standard equipment, the volume of the glove compartment has been increased, and in expensive equipment there is a shelf with wireless charging for a smartphone in the lower part of the center console. In addition, the functionality of electronic driver assistants has been expanded, a rear view camera is included in the basic package and now provides a clearer picture — the resolution has been increased from 0.3 to 1.3 megapixels.

The power plants are the same. The basic petrol 1.0-liter petrol turbo engine (117 hp, 180-200 Nm) is combined with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic transmission of the DCT type (with two clutches).

The hybrid Juke is equipped with a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine (94 hp, 148 Nm), a 20 hp starter-generator, a traction electric motor (49 hp, 205 Nm) and a multi-mode three-shaft engine borrowed from Renault 4-speed gearbox with dog clutches instead of traditional disc synchronizers. The maximum total power of the hybrid power plant is 143 hp. The hybrid Juke reaches the first hundred in 10.1 seconds, with a top speed of 166 km/h. All versions of the crossover have only front-wheel drive.

The Sunderland plant has already started production updated new Juke, prices have not yet been announced, but they will certainly increase compared to the pre-restyling crossover, which costs in Germany from 20,790 euros.
