Spain and Belgium have become the main buyers of Russian LNG in Europe

MOSCOW, February 18 At the end of last year, the main European buyers of Russian liquefied natural gas were Spain and Belgium — they accounted for almost three-quarters of all supplies to the European Union, follows from the analysis European statistics data.
So, Spain purchased more than 40 percent of all LNG supplied by Russia — 5.24 billion cubic meters (five percent more than a year earlier).

Belgium accounted for 30 percent, and its purchases increased 1.7 times, to 3.82 billion cubic meters The Netherlands was in third place, although the annual volume decreased by 1.9 times — to 2.1 billion cubic meters.

The absolute leader in the growth of imports of Russian LNG was Greece — it grew 4.1 times, to 750 million cubic meters, which brought it to fourth place in the list of largest buyers. Portugal, which increased purchases by 1.4 times, to 390 million cubic meters, became fifth. Finland, Italy, Sweden, Estonia and Lithuania also bought small amounts of gas — a total of about 380 million cubic meters.
In general, in 2023, the European Union increased purchases of Russian LNG by about three percent — to 12.7 billion cubic meters.
