In its debut market, the compact SUV is offered in three trim levels, and the “base” turned out to be quite good. You won't be able to select the engine and gearbox.
The world premiere of the Renault Kardian model took place in Brazil last fall, only its production has been established there. The company is positioning the compact five-door as a completely new “B-segment urban SUV,” but in reality it is a redesigned third-generation Dacia Sandero Stepway cross-hatch. By the way, the new SUV was going to be sold in Russia: production under the Renault brand was supposed to be launched at AVTOVAZ, and there is a possibility that it would have remained with us under the name Sandero Stepway. But after the well-known events began, Renault left the Russian Federation, and the project was closed. So now the main habitat for the cross has become Latin America, and the debut market is Brazil: the local division of the brand announced Kardian prices and opened orders.

Let's remember that Renault claims that the compact is built on a new modular platform — apparently, the company considers the modernized CMF-B “trolley” to be such. The cross differs from the “third” Sandero in the design of the front and rear, while inside the Kardian imitates the Dacia model. The length of the new product is 4119 mm, which is 20 mm longer than the European Sandero Stepway. The wheelbase of the cars is the same — 2604 mm.
In Brazil, the Renault Kardian is offered with an uncontested turbo engine 1.0 TCe: traditionally for this country, the engine is “powered” by both gasoline and ethanol, maximum output is 125 hp. and 220 Nm. The engine is paired exclusively with a six-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches. The drive is, of course, only front-wheel drive.

There are three trim levels to choose from: Evolution, Techno and Premier Edition. The “base” turned out to be quite good, it includes 16-inch wheels, LED optics, roof rails, six airbags, a 7-inch screen in the dashboard, a multimedia system with an 8-inch diagonal touchscreen, climate control, rear parking sensors, a rear view camera , ESP, cruise control, start-stop function. The Techno version adds 17-inch wheels, an electronic handbrake, an armrest with a box (installed between the front seats), a remote engine start function and an auto-braking system. The top-end Kardian Premier Edition also includes LED foglights, front parking sensors, a fin antenna, wireless charging for a smartphone, adaptive cruise, all-round cameras and a blind spot monitoring system.
The price of Renault Kardian varies from 112,790 to 132,790 reais, which is equivalent to approximately 2.1 million — 2.47 million rubles at the current exchange rate . For comparison, a Fiat Pulse SUV made according to the same recipe (this is the brother of the Fiat Argo hatch) with a 1.0 turbo engine will cost at least 118,990 reais (2.2 million rubles). But at the same time, the Fiat also has an aspirated engine, and in general its range is wider, so you can find versions cheaper than the Cardian. And in Brazil, the second-generation cross-hatch Renault Sandero Stepway is still in service; it costs from 84,470 reais (1.57 million rubles).
Delivery to customers will start in March, later Renault Kardian will also reach other Latin American markets.
