WASHINGTON, February 24 New sanctions directed against the Russian Federation are unlikely to have a significant negative impact on its economy, “given Russia’s resilience,” the Washington Post writes.
Earlier on Friday, the US Treasury, Commerce and State Departments announced the introduction of large-scale sanctions against Russia. In total, about 500 individuals and organizations, including from third countries, were added to the sanctions lists.
“Two years after (US) President Joe Biden said that… the Russian economy would suffer a “crushing blow,” this year the Russian economy is expected to grow at a faster pace than The United States, Germany, France or the United Kingdom. New US sanctions announced on Friday are unlikely to change this reality, given Russia's resilience as clashes escalate on the battlefields of global trade and finance.
According to the newspaper, this became possible due to increased defense spending, as well as the search for new buyers and suppliers in Asia.
«This is the first geopolitical crisis in which all the major Asian economies do not participate. The West no longer has decisive economic power. India and China are enough to keep Russia afloat,» the newspaper quotes Cornell University sanctions expert Nicholas Mulder as saying.
The Russian Federation has repeatedly stated that the country will cope with the sanctions pressure that the West began to exert on Russia several years ago and continues to increase. Moscow noted that the West lacks the courage to admit the failure of sanctions against the Russian Federation. In Western countries themselves, opinions have been repeatedly voiced that anti-Russian sanctions are ineffective. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy of the West, and sanctions dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy. According to him, the main goal of the West is to worsen the lives of millions of people.
