Rosfinmonitoring added chess player Garry Kasparov to the register of terrorists and extremists.
The Rosfinmonitoring register includes persons involved in cases of extremism or terrorism. Kasparov is included there with a mark in the form of a typographic “asterisk”, which means suspicion of terrorism. At the same time, there was no official information about the initiation of a case under such an article against the chess player.
In May 2022, Garry Kasparov was added to the list of “foreign agents” compiled by employees of the Ministry of Justice. After the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the chess player, together with other public figures, established the Anti-War Committee. The organization called on the world community to declare the Russian leadership “war criminals” and “violators of international law.”
In 2016, Kasparov founded the opposition “Free Russia Forum” in Vilnius. Every year, Russian and foreign activists and politicians gather at its events. On February 1, 2023, the Prosecutor General's Office recognized the forum as an “undesirable” organization.
