A guest from the dashing 90s: a rare Mercedes-Benz 500 GE 6.0 V8 AMG will be sold at auction

On March 8, at the RM Sotheby's auction in Dubai, one of the early “Geliks” with a V8 engine, modified by a tuning studio, will be auctioned AMG. The legendary tuner produced just 13 examples of the Mercedes-Benz 500 GE 6.0 V8 AMG in 1993, and the one for sale is in very good condition, despite a respectable mileage of 120,000 km.

< p>Last year, Mercedes-Benz presented the farewell version of the G 500 Final Edition of its iconic SUV, but the regular G 500 is still on sale and costs in Germany from 130,204 euros — those who want to buy it should hurry up, since this year the G 500 In any case, it will part with the V8 engine. He bought it back in 1993 — it was a rather ancient engine with the factory designation M117 and two valves per cylinder, dating back to the late 1960s. The Gelika modification equipped with it received the designation 500 GE. The more recent M119 V8 with four valves per cylinder simply did not fit under the hood of an SUV.

In 1993 and 1994, Mercedes-Benz produced a total of 446 copies of the 500 GE; in stock it produced 241 hp, which was extremely high for an initially utilitarian car that did not pretend to be the dynamics of a sports car. In the same 1993, the AMG tuning studio began a rapprochement with Mercedes-Benz and became its official partner: the Mercedes-Benz 500 GE 6.0 V8 AMG shown in the photographs is one of the first results of collaboration; only 13 such cars were made. Then the Germans took a break in equipping Gelik cars with V8 engines; the modification with the designation G 500, which is familiar to us today, appeared in the range only in 1998, it was equipped with a 5.0-liter V8 M113.

The early 500s, meanwhile, quickly sold out to private collections and today are expensive on the secondary market due to their rarity. One of thirteen examples, made for a client from Japan, is estimated at RM Sotheby's auction at $150,000 — $200,000. The real price, which we will find out tomorrow, may be higher. In any case, a unique Mercedes-Benz 300 TE 6.0 AMG station wagon, nicknamed the “mallet,” put up last week at the RM Sotheby’s auction in Miami ended up selling for $467,000, with a maximum estimate of $400,000.

The Kiyanku and the Mercedes-Benz 500 GE 6.0 V8 AMG share an engine: AMG specialists increased the displacement from the standard 4973 to 5953 cubic meters and removed 331 hp from it, which obviously improved the dynamic characteristics of the standard 500 GE, but we don’t found specific figures in open sources. The standard 500 GE model of 1993 reaches the first “hundred” in 10.5 seconds, the maximum speed is 175 km/h.

All 13 copies of the Mercedes-Benz 500 GE 6.0 V8 AMG were painted in dark blue Amethyst Blue Metallic, the equipment was “full stuffing” (leather, wood, electric drives, heating, etc. ). The auction copy is equipped with non-standard equipment, such as a Panasonic multimedia screen, but it can be removed to give the car an authentic look.
