The Basmanny District Court of Moscow arrested in absentia Ukrainian woman Irina Zemlyan, who on May 9, 2022 poured beet juice on the Russian Ambassador to Poland Sergei Andreev. Mediazona became aware of this.
The court made the decision to arrest him in absentia on March 4. A criminal case was opened against the Ukrainian woman for attacking a person enjoying international protection for the purpose of provoking war (Part 2 of Article 360 of the Criminal Code). According to Mediazona, Irina Zemlyan has been wanted since November last year. To the register of extremists and terrorists with a mark in the form typographic «stars»it was added in February.
Neither in the wanted card, nor in the Rosfinmonitoring record, nor in court did the Investigative Committee investigators indicate the middle name Zemlyan. Moreover, the photo on the wanted card was also taken not from passport databases or social networks, but from an action in Warsaw — her face is doused with beetroot juice. This may indicate that the investigation put the Ukrainian woman on the wanted list, and the court arrested her in absentia, without even finding out what her real name was or what she looked like.
Sergei Andreev was doused with juice amid cries of “fascists” during a flower-laying ceremony at a Soviet cemetery military in Warsaw. In mid-May 2022, Zemlyana, who participated in the action, later wrote on her Facebook page that she left the Polish capital due to “threats from the Russians.”
