
MOSCOW, March 11 The State Historical Museum (GIM) and the Institute of Archeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences will create an award named after the founder of the first museum national history of Russia, Count Alexei Uvarov in honor of the 200th anniversary of his birth, the press service of the State Historical Museum reported.

It is noted that at 9.30 on March 11, a memorial service will be held in memory of Count Uvarov in the Church of St. Ambrose of Milan in the Novodevichy Convent, after which the management and staff of the Historical Museum will lay flowers on his grave.
In addition, on April 16, an exhibition will open at the Historical Museum that will tell about Uvarov’s life path, scientific activities, and demonstrate the diversity and richness of his collections.

Scientist, archaeologist, founder of the Moscow Archaeological Society, collector, honorary member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences, philanthropist Alexey Uvarov was born on March 11, 1824. He became the author of the idea of creating a Historical Museum and realized his plan. In 1851-1852, Uvarov led an archaeological expedition to the Suzdal district, conducting excavations on the territory of the Suzdal Spaso-Evfimiev Monastery in search of the exact burial place of Prince Dmitry Pozharsky. Uvarov managed to discover the tomb of the Pozharskys. In 1864, Uvarov established the Moscow Archaeological Society to study Russian archaeology, popularize archaeological and historical knowledge.
