Young Film Festival «New Movement» debuts in Veliky Novgorod

VELIKY NOVGOROD, March 11The Russian festival of young cinema “New Movement” for aspiring filmmakers will be held for the first time in Veliky Novgorod from May 30 to June 3, the press service of the regional government reports.
It is clarified that the festival will be held with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the regional government. It is intended to become a single space for demonstrating the latest Russian cinema and exchanging experiences. Thanks to the location of Veliky Novgorod between two capitals, it should attract directors from Moscow and St. Petersburg.
«The Russian festival of young cinema «New Movement» will be held for the first time in Veliky Novgorod from May 30 to June 3, 2024. Those filmmakers who have made their first, second or third feature film will be able to apply for participation in the main competition» , the message says.

According to Governor Andrei Nikitin, Veliky Novgorod has extensive experience in holding major cultural events: the First International Youth Piano Competition named after S.V. Rachmaninov was successfully held in 2023, and the theater festival named after F.M. Dostoevsky is held annually.

«»Veliky Novgorod is, first of all, a city of youth. We are developing our university and professional education system so that it is convenient, interesting and prestigious for young people from all over the country to study here. I am confident that the festival of young cinema «New Movement» will take its rightful place place in the event line-up of cultural events in our country and will become an annual highlight for young talents from all over Russia,” Nikitin said.
It is noted that the general producers of the show are actor, director and producer Artem Mikhalkov, as well as producer Maxim Korolev. The program director is film critic Vadim Rutkovsky, who is also one of the selectors for the Moscow International Film Festival.
“»We already have several debut film festivals in our country. But we just decided to get away from this concept. We want to show young cinema, not tied to names or “debutant” statuses. We focus on the films themselves , in which there is something interesting, fresh idea, unexpected,” Mikhalkov noted.
“We really want to support young directors who are still in search of themselves, their directorial self. We want to give them a platform for experimentation,” said Korolev.

Full-length feature films whose production was completed after May 1, 2023 are eligible to participate in the competition. Their timing must be more than 60 minutes. Applications are accepted until April 25.
