MOSCOW, March 14 People's Artist of the RSFSR, head of the Moscow Classical Ballet Theater Natalia Kasatkina died at the age of 90, her assistant Valentina Buryanova reported.
“Yes, she died tonight,” said the agency’s interlocutor.
According to Kasatkina’s son, farewell to her will take place on Saturday, March 16, in the atrium of the Bolshoi Theater. The ballerina will be buried in Snegiri, in the family cemetery next to her husband Vladimir Vasilev.
Natalia Kasatkina was born on June 7, 1934 in Moscow. In 1953 she graduated from the Moscow Choreographic School. In 1954-1976 she danced at the Bolshoi Theater and was the first performer of the parts of Besnovataya in the ballet “The Rite of Spring” by Igor Stravinsky, Rock in “Carmen Suite” by Georges Bizet — Rodion Shchedrin, the Indian doll in “The Nutcracker” by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and other productions.< br />
Since the early 1960s, Kasatkina worked in a creative union with her husband, dancer and choreographer Vladimir Vasilev, and was a choreographer and screenwriter. Since 1977, Kasatkina and Vasilev have been artistic directors of the classical ballet concert ensemble, and since 1992 of the State Classical Ballet Theater.
