MOSCOW, March 15 People's Artist of the RSFSR, President of the Satire Theater Actor Alexander Shirvindt died at the age of 90, said actor Yuri Vasiliev.
Farewell with Shirvindt will take place at the Satire Theater, he will be buried at the Novodevichy cemetery, the theater press service added. The farewell date will be announced later.
Alexander Shirvindt was born on July 19, 1934 in Moscow. In 1956 he graduated from the Boris Shchukin Theater School, after which he was accepted into the troupe of the Lenin Komsomol Theater (now Lenkom). The success of the young actor was brought by roles in plays staged by Anatoly Efros, who headed the theater in 1964. This is Trigorin in “The Seagull” by Anton Chekhov, Louis in “Molière” by Mikhail Bulgakov, Guderian in “To Each His Own” by Samuil Aleshin and others.
In 1968, following Efros, Shirvindt moved to the Moscow Drama Theater on Malaya Bronnaya, where he served for two years, and since 1970 he worked at the Moscow Satire Theater. His first role on this stage in the theater was Count Almaviva in the famous production of Valentin Pluchek’s “Crazy Day, or The Marriage of Figaro” (1970).
Along with his acting work at the Satire Theater, Shirvindt began directing. In 1970, together with Mark Zakharov, he staged the play “Awake and Sing!” based on the play by Miklos Dyarfas. He often acted as not only a director, but also an author or co-author of a dramatization/script, and in total he has produced more than 20 performances.
Shirvindt made his film debut in 1956 in the film “She Loves You” by Semyon Derevyansky and Rafail Suslovich. His filmography includes more than 60 works, including “Come Tomorrow…” (1962), “The Irony of Fate, or Enjoy Your Bath!” (1975), “Sky Swallows” (1976), “Three in a Boat” (1979), “The Most Charming and Attractive” (1985), “Forgotten Melody for Flute” (1987).
A special place in Shirvindt's work is occupied by the stage. As an author and director, he worked with Tarapunka and Shtepsel (Efim Berezin and Yuri Timoshenko), Lev Mirov and Mark Novitsky, Leonid Utesov, Vladimir Vinokur, Ilya Oleinikov. Shirvindt invented the popular duet “Veronica Mavrikievna and Avdotya Nikitichna” (Vadim Tonkov and Boris Vladimirov), wrote pop monologues for Vera Maretskaya, Mikhail Pugovkin, Vsevolod Sanaev and many others.
In 1989, Shirvindt was awarded the title of People's Artist of the RSFSR. Winner of the Crystal Turandot awards (2009), Theater Star (2009), and the national Figaro award named after Andrei Mironov (2015). Awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples (1994) and “For Services to the Fatherland” of all four degrees.
