
MOSCOW, March 18 Spartak Moscow football player Quincy Promes are being fed the Indian dish biryani at the Dubai Police Department, De Telegraaf reports, citing UAE journalist Mazhar Farooqi.
Dubai police detained Promes on February 29 while passing through border control at Al Maktoum International Airport, the player was taken to the police station. The 32-year-old footballer was detained in the UAE for a local offense (road accident). Promes was later arrested at the request of Dutch prosecutors, who are demanding his extradition. According to media reports, the attacker is being held at a police station near Dubai airport.
According to the source, all prisoners in custody receive biryani — a dish of rice and chicken. At the same time, the football player does not have access to a smartphone, and several people are sitting in the cells. Dubai-based lawyer Arash Zad notes that detainees receive medicine if necessary, as well as clothing.
Earlier in the Netherlands, the football player was sentenced to six years in prison for drug smuggling and one and a half years for aggravated assault on his cousin. The Amsterdam prosecutor's office said that Promes was put on the international wanted list. The verdicts were appealed by the defense.
