The brand decided to bring the latest version of its four-door to the “world” market. Moreover, the global model has so far been announced exclusively with an internal combustion engine, while in its homeland a car with this design is presented as a hybrid.
In the Middle Kingdom, the serial Geely Preface sedan (Chinese name – Xingrui) debuted in 2020. Two years later, the four-door was modernized, and in 2023 it underwent another, more significant update, at the same time receiving a prefix in the form of the letter L to its name. However, they refused to consider the Preface L a restyling at home: there this version complemented the range. The sedan has long been sold in other countries, including Russia, but we are talking about “gray” cars. But official deliveries of Geely Preface outside of China are only now beginning: the model was announced in Saudi Arabia, and then it will appear in other markets where the brand is present. Moreover, the company decided to export the latest version, that is, the 2023 model, but without the L prefix.

Let us remind you that the sedan is based on the CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) platform, developed by the Chinese together with Volvo (Gili owns the Swedish brand). In terms of dimensions, the global Geely Preface coincides with the Elka for China: length is 4825 mm, width – 1880 mm, height – 1469 mm, wheelbase – 2800 mm. If we compare it with models of non-Chinese brands, the four-door is not far from, for example, the previous generation Toyota Camry.

In terms of design, the “world” sedan also repeated the version for the Middle Kingdom, except that the rear bumper was retouched, plus the global Preface has dual oval exhaust pipes instead of trapezoidal ones. Other exterior features include massive “wedges” on the radiator grille, decorative T-shaped inserts at the front and rear lights designed as a single plate. A vertical multimedia system tablet is installed in the cabin, and the four-door is also deprived of the usual gearbox selector — the right steering column lever is responsible for controlling the transmission.
In Saudi Arabia, two trim levels are announced for the Geely Preface. The base includes LED optics, a panoramic sunroof, a 10.2-inch virtual instrument panel, the aforementioned tablet (13.2 inches), perforated leather, climate control, front and side airbags, front and rear parking sensors. The top version also has red brake calipers, ventilated front seats, curtain airbags, adaptive cruise control, auto braking and lane keeping systems.

On In the Middle East, the sedan will be available with a Drive-E 2.0 petrol turbo-four engine producing 218 hp. (325 Nm), which is combined with a seven-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches. Front-wheel drive only. It is stated that the Geely Preface will reach the first “hundred” in 6.9 seconds. Note that in China, a model with this design is offered exclusively as a HEV hybrid (without the possibility of charging from the mains) with an installation based on a 1.5 turbo engine (163 hp).
Prices have not yet been announced . For example, the junior Geely Emgrand sedan in Saudi Arabia today costs from 57,385 local rials — that’s about 1.4 million rubles at the current exchange rate.
Meanwhile, according to preliminary data, Geely plans to organize legal sales of Preface and in Russia. However, it’s still better to wait for an announcement from the local division of the brand.
