In the photo of the Chinese Ministry of Industry, the new generation BAIC Beijing BJ30 crossover appeared last year; the manufacturer itself revealed the appearance of the five-door in early March. And now the first screening for media representatives was held in the Middle Kingdom. Let us remind you that the predecessor has been in service since 2020, and this SUV is not an original model: the BJ30 index was assigned to the BJ20 SUV, which underwent a large-scale restyling (“twenty” debuted in 2015).

The crossover retained its brutal image, but the appearance was refined. In general, the model is made according to the recipe of the Haval Dargo and Jetour T2 (in China these are the Haval DaGou and Jetour Traveler) — that is, the BJ30 has the design of an SUV, although it is a SUV with a monocoque body. The features of the new BAIC product are headlights fused with the radiator grille, LED half-rings of running lights and additional luminous stripes, vertical blocks of rear lights. But the cross didn’t get an external spare tire.

In the new generation, the model has grown noticeably. The length of the “second” Beijing BJ30 is 4730 mm, width – 1910 mm, height – 1757 or 1790 mm (depending on the version), wheelbase – 2820 mm. For comparison, the dimensions of the predecessor are: 4505/1855/1710 mm, the distance between the axles is 2675 mm. The approach angle of the new BJ30 is 25 degrees, the departure angle is 30 degrees. The passport ground clearance is 215 mm.

In the five-seater cabin there are separate screens for the instrument panel and multimedia system (diagonal 10.25 and 14.6 inches, respectively), and the central tablet now rises above the front panel. They abandoned round air deflectors: the new BJ30 has rectangular ones. There is no longer a climate control unit — the settings are built into the touchscreen. The crossover also received a compact gear selector. Adaptive cruise control and a lane keeping system are also announced for the model.

The new BAIC Beijing BJ30 will be offered as a HEV hybrid, that is, without the ability to charge from the mains. The installation is based on a 1.5 petrol turbo engine, the Chinese write that this SUV has all-wheel drive. Total power – 409 hp. and 685 Nm. It is reported that the top crossover will reach the first “hundred” in 6 seconds. There will also be a “traditional” version – with a 188-horsepower 1.5T. There is no information about the boxes yet. The previous crossover is presented with a 156-horsepower one and a half liter turbo engine, a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

The new Beijing BJ30 should make its public premiere at the Beijing Motor Show, which opens on April 25. Then orders will begin to be accepted at home. Local specialized media suggest that the hybrid will cost somewhere from 120,000 yuan (about 1.5 million rubles at the current exchange rate). The petrol predecessor now costs from 105,800 yuan (about 1.3 million rubles).

Neither the old nor the new “thirty” was announced for Russia. However, Kaliningrad Avtotor is actively developing the BAIC model range, one of the latest premieres in the Russian Federation is the X75 crossover. So subsequently the BJ30 may well reach our market.
