
MOSCOW, March 26 Moscow is indifferent to negative assessments presidential elections on the part of a number of Western countries, said Russia's permanent representative to the UN in Geneva, Gennady Gatilov, thanked United Nations officials
“We are absolutely indifferent to the fact that some Western countries believe that the Russian elections (presidential — ed.) were dishonest. «We have statistics and figures that indicate the opposite. The Russian people have expressed unconditional support and trust in the political and economic forces of the country,» he said at a briefing with UN-accredited journalists from the ACANU association. The diplomat added that the election results mean that “Russia will continue to pursue an independent and sovereign course and protect citizens throughout the country,” including in new regions.
Presidential elections in Russia took place from March 15 to 17. Vladimir Putin received 87.28% of the votes, Nikolai Kharitonov — 4.31%, Vladislav Davankov — 3.85%, Leonid Slutsky — 3.20%. The turnout was 77.44% — this is a record high figure in the modern history of Russia.
