UFA, April 5 A dam has broken in Orsk and a mass evacuation of residents is underway, the city mayor's office reported.
«The dam that protected the city from the Ural River has broken. Now there is a mass evacuation of people from the Old Town, where several Orsk villages are located,» — said an administration representative.
It is noted that 4,258 houses and 10,987 people were caught in the flood zone. They are taken to temporary accommodation centers located in schools No. 17, 37, 88, 5, 52 and gymnasiums No. 1 and 3. Doctors work there, food and sleeping places are provided.
As stated by the regional prosecutor's office, residents of the Leninsky and Sovetsky districts of the city are now being evacuated.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations, in turn, emphasized that rescuers, together with municipal services, are working to strengthen the dam and eliminate the gust.
Later, the head of Orsk, Vasily Kozupitsa, clarified that partial damage to the dam body occurred in two places, crews and equipment are working to restore the facility.
The press service of the governor and government of the Orenburg region reported that 33 dump trucks with backfill material and five front loaders were sent to the site of the breakthrough.
More than 200 police officers were deployed in the flooding area to help carry out rescue operations , and also ensure road safety and protect evacuation sites for citizens.
In addition, two Il-76 aircraft flew to Orsk, carrying more than 100 specialists from the Tsentrospas detachment and the Leader center of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, 20 watercraft, five units of off-road equipment, special equipment, wetsuits, life jackets and a diving station rapid deployment.
