The first was intercepted by coalition forces, the second fell into the water in the distance from the ship,” the department said in a statement on the social network X. The incident is classified as an attack.
According to the message, the ship and crew were not injured, it continues to sail to the port of destination. Authorities are investigating.
The agency advised ships to proceed through the area with caution and to «report any suspicious activity.»
The ruling Ansar Allah (Houthi) movement in northern Yemen, which controls most of Yemen's Red Sea coast, previously warned of its intention to attack any ships associated with Israel, calling on other countries to recall their crews from them and not to approach them in sea. A number of shipping companies have decided to suspend transportation through the Red Sea.
The Houthis have previously said that their actions in the Red Sea are aimed at helping Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, they argued that they do not interfere with freedom of navigation in the region.
