According to preliminary data, the liftback of one of the sub-brands of the Chinese company was used as the basis for Mazda’s new product. It is expected that the model will be offered both with a hybrid installation and as a full-fledged electric car.
The Chinese joint venture Changan Mazda published a teaser of a new model with the promise of an imminent premiere. The name of the car has not yet been revealed, and there is no exact date for the presentation. It is only clear that this will not be a crossover, but a passenger car. Meanwhile, the name Mazda EZ-6 was previously registered in the Celestial Empire, in addition, spy photos of a camouflaged prototype have already been posted on the Internet. So, the future car can well be considered the successor to the Mazda Atenza, which has already left the Chinese market: this name in China was given to the model known in other countries as the Mazda 6 (although Atenza made another joint venture — with the FAW concern, this enterprise has already been disbanded).
It is assumed that the new product was not created by Mazda from scratch: some local specialized media believe that they took the Deepal SL03 liftback as the basis. The Deepal brand, we recall, belongs to Changan (the brand is also known under the names Shenlan and Deep Blue), it was launched in 2022 specifically for electrified cars. The upcoming Mazda, of course, will have its own design, but it should share the filling with the donor “Chinese”. The latter is available as a hybrid or electric vehicle.

If the information about joint development is confirmed, then the new Mazda model will also probably be a liftback. The length of the Deepal SL03 is 4820 mm, width – 1890 mm, height – 1480 mm, wheelbase – 2900 mm. For comparison, the dimensions of the current Mazda 6 sedan (in European specification): 4870/1840/1450 mm, the distance between the axles is 2830 mm.

The installation of the hybrid Deepal SL03 includes a 95-horsepower 1.5 naturally aspirated gasoline engine (intended only for recharging the battery) and an electric motor with a capacity of 258 hp. The rear-wheel drive electric car is available in its home country with a 218 or 258 hp engine; this modification is equipped with a battery with a capacity of 58.89 kWh or 66.8 kWh (model 2024).

Full premiere Mazda's new product may debut at the Beijing Motor Show, which will open at the end of April.
Note that earlier the Japanese company also registered the “6e” index – already in Europe. It is possible that in the Old World the outdated Mazda 6 will also have a replacement, but there is no information yet about whether the European model will have something in common with the Chinese one.
