ROME, Apr 11Italian archaeologists continuing excavations at the ancient Roman city of Pompeii have revealed an “impressive banquet hall with elegant black walls” decorated with mythological scenes on the theme of the Trojan War, the Italian Ministry of Culture said.
““An exquisite space in which you can enjoy pleasant moments with banquets and conversations, where you can breathe the air of a high standard of living, which shows the spaciousness of the room, the presence of frescoes and mosaics, the artistic quality of the paintings and the choice of subjects,” the statement says.
The dominant theme of the wall images is heroism, which is intended to reflect the pairs of heroes and deities of the Trojan War, as well as “fate and at the same time the opportunity, often not realized by a person, to change his own life.” So, Elena and Prince Paris, whose romance caused the start of the Trojan War, the soothsayer Cassandra and the god Apollo appear on the frescoes.
““Pompeii is truly a treasure chest that never ceases to surprise and amaze us, because every time we excavate we find something beautiful and significant,” said Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano .
