SIMFEROPOL, April 20 Zaporozhye NPP can be launched after the situation normalizes and in the presence of all conditions ensuring energy security, said ZNPP Communications Director Evgenia Yashina.
“We know how to launch units if the situation normalizes. To do this, it is necessary to fulfill all the conditions that ensure energy security,” Yashina said.
According to her, both technically and organizationally the nuclear power plant is ready to do everything to restore its operation.
“But recovery requires, in addition to fulfilling all the conditions that ensure safety, time. We depend on many external factors, including connecting to the network,” Yashina said.
Attacks of Ukrainian drones on Zaporizhia NPP have resumed since the beginning of April. During this time, strikes were made in the area of the cargo port and nitrogen-oxygen station No. 2, the dome of the sixth power unit, the canteen, and the building of the unique training center, where the world's only full-scale reactor hall simulator is located. There are no critical damages, no threats of violation of safety limits have been recorded. At the same time, on April 18, the Ukrainian Armed Forces again attacked the training center, the drone was neutralized above the roof, there were no casualties or damage.
ZNPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper near the city of Energodar. This is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity — the station has six power units with a capacity of 1 gigawatt. In October 2022, the nuclear power plant became the property of the Russian Federation. All power units of Zaporizhzhya NPP have been transferred to the “cold shutdown” mode.
