MOSCOW, May 2For the first time, a rating of domestic organic wines has been presented in Russia; more than 30 samples were examined within the framework of the “Russian Wine Guide” project, Roskachestvo reported.
It is noted that since 2016, GOST “Organic production products. Rules for production, processing, labeling and sales” has been in force in Russia. However, the first wines produced from grapes grown on the principles of organic production began to appear in significant volumes on the domestic market only 2-3 years ago.
“In accordance with the standard, organic viticulture must preserve and improve soil fertility, preserve biological diversity, without using substances that can harm the environment. When producing organic wine, pesticides and poisons, chemical fertilizers cannot be used, preservatives are completely prohibited or strictly limited in the finished product. The latest amendments to GOST adopted standards for sulfur content that are more stringent than in the EU wine-producing countries,” explained Elena Sarattseva, deputy head of Roskachestvo.
In general, for the “first study of wines of organic origin,” Roskachestvo experts purchased in stores 34 types of wines of different types, produced from grapes with an “organic” certificate from six brands: “Andrius Yutsis”, “Burnier”, M2, Aya, “Pavel Shvets” » (Uppa Winery), Villa di Alma. The samples included 17 red, 13 white and 4 rose wines.
Thus, red wines in the study received higher ratings than white and rosé.
The top three in both red and white are wines from the organic vineyard «Burnier» from Novorossiysk (Krasnodar Territory). The best wine in the rosé category was Pinot Noir by Andrius Jutsis (Crimea).
«Wine Guide of Russia» is an annual project that Roskachestvo implements jointly with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers of Russia with the support of Rosselkhozbank. MIA «Russia Today» is the information partner of the project.
