The head of the press service of the US State Department, Matthew Miller, commented at a briefing on the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin to conduct exercises on the use of non-strategic nuclear weapons. Earlier, the Kremlin explained that the exercises were being held in connection with belligerent statements by Western representatives about the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine and about Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory with Western weapons.
“We saw no reason to adjust our own nuclear position in response to these statements,» Miller said.
He added that the United States sees no signs that Russia is «preparing to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine.»
The representative responded US Foreign Ministry and to a question about statements made in the US Congress about the possible sending of forces to Ukraine. «President Joe Biden has made it clear that this will not happen,» Miller said.
