MOSCOW, May 12. The Canadian team beat the Danish team in the match group stage of the Ice Hockey World Championship in the Czech Republic.
The meeting of Group A, held in Prague, ended with the score 5:1 (2:0, 0:1, 3:0). For the Canadian team, Connor Bedard scored a double (2nd and 42nd minutes), who also scored an assist, while Dylan Cozens (16), Dawson Mercer (59) and Pierre-Luc Dubois (60) scored once each. For the Danish national team, Christian Weisse (27) scored the goal.
Bedard took first place in the list of scorers of the current tournament. The 18-year-old forward, who was selected first overall in the National Hockey League (NHL) draft by the Chicago Blackhawks, has 5 points (4 goals + 1 assist).
In the next match, the Danish team will play against the Norwegians on May 14, the Canadians will meet with the Austrian team on the same day.
In the Group B match, the Latvian team beat the French team in overtime with a score of 3:2 (0:1, 0:0, 2:1, 1:0). Stefan Da Costa, who plays for Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), scored a goal and an assist for the French team.
The national teams of Russia and Belarus were suspended from international competitions by the decision of the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) due to the situation in Ukraine.
