The head of the Main Communications Directorate of the Russian Army, Lieutenant General Vadim Shamarin, became a suspect in a criminal case of bribery. This was reported by the Interfax publication, citing its own source.
“Shamarin was taken for questioning as part of a criminal case, after which his procedural status will be determined,” the agency’s interlocutor said.
It is reported that the general was searched in connection with a criminal case about alleged fraud. There has been no official information on this matter yet.
It is noteworthy that in the post of chief communications officer of the Russian army, Vadim Shamarin replaced Khalil Arslanov, who was arrested in 2020 in a case of fraud and corruption in the supply of equipment to the armed forces. Then General Arslanov was accused of fraud totaling almost 6.7 billion rubles and a bribe of 12 million rubles. The investigation into the case is still ongoing.
Let us recall that earlier in the Russian Federation, Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov and the head of the Main Personnel Directorate of the Ministry of Defense Yuri Kuznetsov were arrested on suspicion of corruption.
