BUDAPEST, May 25. Bulgaria guarantees Hungary that gas from the Russian Federation via the Turkish Stream will flow uninterruptedly, the Foreign Minister said affairs and foreign economic relations of Hungary Peter Szijjártó.
“We have repeatedly received guarantees from Bulgaria that in the subsequent period we can count on them, we can count on their correct attitude and that the Turkish Stream gas pipeline will function as one of the safest and most predictable routes in Europe in the future,” — Szijjártó said in a video message after negotiations with his Bulgarian counterpart Vladimir Malinov, which was broadcast on social networks. 
Szijjártó added that Hungary and Bulgaria are cooperating in the nuclear field, since Bulgaria plans, like Hungary, to increase the share of nuclear energy in the energy balance in the future.
On October 13, Bulgaria established an excise tax of 20 levs (10 euros) per megawatt-hour of transit of Russian gas. The new transit fee was approximately a fifth of the current TTF gas base price (€50 per megawatt hour). Typically, transit fees do not exceed a few percent of the actual cost of gas. Hungary and Serbia said in a joint declaration that Bulgaria's actions threaten their energy supplies.
In December, the Bulgarian People's Assembly (parliament) voted to abolish increased tariffs for the transit of Russian gas after Hungary presented an ultimatum to Bulgaria and threatened to veto accession to Schengen.
