BUDAPEST, May 25Hungary received 5.6 billion cubic meters from Russia through Turkish Stream in 2023, which amounted to 65% of its annual gas consumption; more than 2.5 billion cubic meters have already arrived in 2024; by the end of the year, the figure is expected to double, the minister said Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary Peter Szijjártó.
He emphasized that the Turkish Stream is extremely important for Hungary, since through it it receives most of the gas from the Russian Federation. 
“Last year, 5.6 billion cubic meters of gas arrived, this amounted to almost 65% of Hungarian consumption… This year more than 2.5 billion cubic meters have already arrived via this route, we expect that by the end of the year this will more than double «, Szijjártó said after negotiations with his Bulgarian colleague Vladimir Malinov, the speech was broadcast on social networks.
Hungary and Gazprom signed contracts in September 2021 for the supply of 4.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year over the next 15 years, of which 3.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year are via the route through Serbia (from the Turkish Stream) and 1 billion — through Austria. The first volumes of gas through the Balkan Stream gas pipeline, which receives gas from the Turkish Stream, went to Hungary through Serbia on October 1. The contract volume corresponds to approximately 12.3 million cubic meters of gas per day.
In August 2022, Szijjártó announced that an agreement had been signed with Gazprom, according to which an additional 5.8 million cubic meters of gas would be supplied to the country daily through the Turkish Stream and Serbia from September 1. During his visit to Moscow in March 2023, it was stated that the agreement on additional supplies would be extended.
