MOSCOW, May 27. A high-profile criminal case about fraud in the courts of Moscow and the Moscow region is being closed due to the expiration of the statute of limitations, and his defendants will escape punishment, writes the Kommersant newspaper.
“After four years of proceedings in the circumstances of the alleged theft of more than 500 million rubles allocated from the budget to pay for the services of translators, the court returned the case due to violations of the Code of Criminal Procedure to the Prosecutor General’s Office,” the publication emphasized.
It is noted that the criminal prosecution of two defendants in the case has already been stopped due to the expiration of the statute of limitations, while for six others it will end at the end of this year. According to the investigation, the company «Rabikon-K», which provides translation services, whose main clients were the capital's courts, transferred false documents on the remuneration of translators to the judicial departments of Moscow and the Moscow region, the material says.
The high-profile case ended up in the Kalininsky District Court of the Tver Region in February 2020, but hearings were regularly postponed due to illness of either the defendants or the lawyers, the publication concluded.
