Suitcases and swimsuits have become more expensive
Travel expenses are growing every year — both foreign and domestic tourism are becoming more expensive: railway and air tickets, hotels, excursions, cafes and restaurants… However, at the stage of preparation for vacation, Russians also have to spend more and more: in 2024, at least 35,000 rubles will be required for the most modest vacation fees — this data was shared by representatives of one of the large online payment operators. This amount includes a suitcase, swimsuit or swimming trunks, dress or shorts, hat and glasses, beach shoes and sneakers, as well as tanning cosmetics.
Experts analyzed the average expenses of Russians before the start of the summer season and roughly calculated what they would need to buy before leaving for the resort. For example, many realized that they needed a new suitcase — the number of purchases in April-May 2024 increased by 62% compared to last year, and the average average bill increased by 10% and amounted to 4,030 rubles. But Russians are less interested in tents — 10% less than in 2023 — and the average bill was 3,505 rubles. The demand for other goods for hiking also decreased: there were 7% fewer purchases of folding tables, and the average bill was 3,830 rubles, sleeping bags — by 9% (average bill 2,634 rubles). Obviously, this year Russians prefer resorts to hiking.
In May, people actively buy resort clothing, sunscreen and shoes for the beach. The average bill in cosmetics stores (including sunscreen) was 6,820 rubles. As for beach items, the average purchase price for a swimsuit or swimming trunks today is 1,984 rubles, and for beach shoes — 814 rubles. All these things have become more expensive compared to last year. The turnover of payments for regular clothing for men and women has grown less noticeably — by 25%. Payments increased by 35%, but the number of payers did not change. The average check decreased slightly — by 8%, up to 10,445 rubles.
