In the Moscow region, a pensioner was given a suspended sentence for pouring gouache into a ballot box

The Lyubertsy City Court of the Moscow Region imposed a one-year suspended sentence on pensioner Nadezhda Nikulina, who poured gouache into a ballot box. This was reported by SOTA.

The incident occurred during the elections in March 2024 in the town of Dzerzhinsky near Moscow, at polling station No. 232 in the “Children’s Art School”. Representatives of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation wrote then that “the paint was dried” and there were “no significant changes in the documents.”

Nikulina admitted guilt, her case was considered in a special manner (clause “c” of Part 2 of Article 141 of the Criminal Code). According to investigators, she poured paint on the ballots because an unknown person on WhatsApp offered to pay off her loan for this.

All three days of the presidential elections in Russia were accompanied by attacks on polling stations and attempts to spoil ballots with brilliant green and paint . According to Mediazona’s calculations, at least 44 similar cases were reported in 29 regions in those days. The detainees themselves said that they were pushed into attacks by telephone scammers.
