Every third condom in Russia is a fake
At SPIEF, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies (CRPT) Mikhail Dubin said that about 20-30% of condoms sold in Russia are fake. TASS writes about this. This is a rather alarming statistic, given the importance of using condoms to prevent the spread of infections and control birth rates.
According to information presented at SPIEF, an experiment will be launched on September 1 to label 10 new types of medical products, including condoms. The purpose of this experiment is to combat illegal trafficking and ensure quality control and product safety. Labeling will allow consumers to be confident in the authenticity of the goods they purchase and will prevent low-quality or counterfeit products from entering the market.
Mikhail Dubin also noted that the barriers to entry for condom manufacturers into the market are relatively small, which may contribute to an increase in the share of illegal trade. The ease of production of such products can lead to the emergence of products that do not provide adequate protection.
The condom labeling experiment in Russia will last until August 31, 2025. After this, the government will make a final decision on introducing mandatory requirements for the labeling and quality of condoms on the market.
