ST. PETERSBURG, June 8 Russia has passed the peak of encouraging young people to go into the IT sector, with fundamental engineering specialties , on the contrary, are on the rise and will receive support, says Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Maxim Oreshkin.
During one of the discussions on the sidelines of SPIEF during the youth program, the topic of personnel and where talents go, in what areas of business, was touched upon.

Oreshkin recalled that a feature of the 90s and the beginning of the 2000s was that everyone went to study to become economists, everyone wanted to get into investment banks. “And as a result, on the long strategic horizon for the country, some directions sag, when many people go to one place, it is clear that there is simply nowhere to get interesting projects for their development — too many people are moving in some direction and too many people gets lost along the way. But other directions, on the contrary, are squandered, there are no people there, then when projects appear there, a shortage immediately arises,” Oreshkin explained.

In this regard, according to him, the task of the state is to look at a longer horizon and remove such distortions.
Oreshkin added that it is important to find the right balance in what professions young people choose.
< br />“And from the point of view of supporting and encouraging young people to go into IT, we have definitely passed the peak. I think the conditions that existed in 2023-2024 in terms of taxation, various programs and so on — this is already behind us, step by step it will go away to no. But, for example, fundamental engineering specialties, on the contrary, are on the rise and there will be more support here,” Oreshkin clarified.

He emphasized that the mega-grant program and support for young scientists will actively increase in the near future.
“It’s just that in terms of IT, we found ourselves in a situation where our demand simply exceeded what we have in terms of supply by several times. And here, greater support here and now will lead to a certain overproduction in the future and will allow IT costs for the rest of the economy to be seriously reduced “If now these are projects with insane salaries, money, and so on, then in the next 10 years it will be (not so — ed.) — you can’t say that now bankers stand out as much as they stood out 20 years ago,” he said. .
