PRAGUE, June 17. The explosion at the test site in the Czech Republic is not related to sabotage or the international situation, it is a tragic accident, said the head of the Czech Ministry of Defense, Jana Černohová.
Earlier, the press service of the Czech Ministry of Defense reported an explosion of an unidentified type of ammunition at the Libava test site on Monday. As a result of the explosion, one serviceman was killed, seven military personnel and one civilian employee of the military department were also injured.
«It is too early to talk about the results of the investigation; this is already being dealt with by the military police. Judging by the first data of the investigation, there is no suspicion that that we are talking about some kind of sabotage or something that is somehow connected with the international situation. This is a tragic event that occurred as a result of manipulation (with an explosive),” Chernokhova said in an interview with Czech TV. Chernokhova expressed condolences to the family of the deceased serviceman and said that his relatives would be offered assistance within the framework of the military solidarity fund.
According to Chernokhova, she has already visited three wounded servicemen who are in the Ministry of Defense hospital in the city of Olomouc (on east of the country), it was not possible to see one of them, since he was on the operating table at that moment. She also intends to visit the Olomouc city hospital, where two more wounded people are lying. Three more wounded have already been released home after a medical examination.
“I hope that the well-being of those wounded who remain in hospitals and are in serious condition will gradually improve,” Chernokhova said.
