MOSCOW, June 18 Astronomers may have observed the “awakening” of a massive black hole in real time for the first time, the European Southern Observatory said in a press release.
«In a study published today, they (scientists — ed.) concluded that they have witnessed changes never before observed in galaxies — likely the result of the sudden awakening of a massive black hole at its center,» the press says -release. 
< br />According to the release, at the end of 2019, astronomers recorded how the galaxy SDSS1335+0728 suddenly began to emit more light than before, and this phenomenon turned out to be long-lasting — the light continued to become brighter until the present day.
Scientists believe that the “awakening” of a massive black hole located in the center of this galaxy, which began to absorb large amounts of gas around itself, is to blame.
It is noted that a similar process could begin in the massive black hole Sagittarius A*, located in the center of the Milky Way galaxy, where Earth is located, but it is unknown what the likelihood of such a scenario is.
