Julian Assange was released from prison in the UK and is heading to Australia, according to WikiLeaks.
According to preliminary information, the founder of WikiLeaks agreed to partially plead guilty as part of a deal with US prosecutors on a single charge of conspiracy to obtain and disclose national defense information. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison, part of which he has already served in a British prison. During his stay in Belmarsh prison, Assange spent 1,901 days.
The High Court in London decided to release him on bail. He is currently heading to Australia, where his wife and children are waiting for him. Previously, the founder of WikiLeaks was charged with 17 criminal charges, for which he faced a total of up to 175 years in prison. Julian Assange distributed materials about the crimes of American soldiers against civilians in Iraq, as well as documents confirming US participation in coups d'etat and inciting conflicts around the world.
