One of the participants in the seizure of the pretrial detention center in Rostov-on-Don survived, he regained consciousness in the hospital and was interrogated

Daniil Kamnev, a prisoner from the Rostov pre-trial detention center, who participated in taking prison staff hostage, regained consciousness — he is now in the hospital, he was interrogated by security forces. TASS and RIA Novosti write about this with reference to Kamnev’s lawyer Mikhail Minakov.

“Kamnev regained consciousness, and he was apparently interrogated. According to a fellow lawyer, he was called to the hospital to be present at the interrogation of Kamnev. My colleague couldn’t go, but probably another lawyer was called to see him,” Minakov said in a conversation with RIA Novosti.

Six prisoners of the Rostov pre-trial detention center, among whom was Kamnev, took two prison staff hostage on June 16. They had knives, sharpeners, an Islamic State flag and bandanas with Arabic script. The men demanded a car, weapons and the opportunity to leave the detention center.

Shortly after this, special forces began storming the pre-trial detention center — later the Federal Penitentiary Service reported that all the attackers had been killed. Two days after this, Russia Today, citing its sources, reported that one of the invaders, Kamnev, survived.

Later, the Donday publication and the SHOT telegram channel spoke about the same thing. On June 21, Donday, citing his sources, wrote that Kamnev regained consciousness, after which he was transferred to one of the medical institutions of the Federal Penitentiary Service in the Rostov region. On the same day, SHOT reported that the man was in the interregional tuberculosis hospital of the Federal Penitentiary Service — security forces interrogated him there.

According to Donday, during the assault by security forces, Kamnev was wounded in the head. SHOT reported that the man underwent a craniotomy to remove the bullet. He spent some time after the operation in a coma.

Kamnev was in the Rostov pre-trial detention center, since his case is now being considered in the Southern District Military Court. He is being tried on charges of participation in the activities of an extremist organization — according to investigators, he is involved in the work of the At-Takfir Wal-Hijra cell.

SHOT reported that Kamnev was also convicted of participating in a mass brawl — in 2012, he hit a 50-year-old man in the head with a bat. The SOVA Research Center, which monitors the activity of the far right, wrote that Kamnev used to be a Nazi skinhead.

According to the center, in 2013, Kamnev was sentenced to nine years in prison under the article on intentionally causing grievous bodily harm (Article 111 of the Criminal Code). The reason for the case was the participation of a former Nazi skinhead in a fight, because of which a man died. In the colony, Kamnev converted to Islam and changed his name to Hamza, and after his release he began to live in Kislovodsk.

Sova also writes that when Kamnev became a defendant in the At-Takfir Wal-Hijra case, during his interrogation Sabil Mamedov’s wife said that he listened to lectures on jihad and the fight against “infidels” and made homemade grenades in order to blow up the police department. The founder of the “Male State”, Vladislav Pozdnyakov, published an excerpt of the interrogation on his Telegram channel.

On June 18, Pozdnyakov also published a photo of a man with a bandaged head — it is alleged that this is a photo of 27-year-old Kamnev from the hospital. The photo shows the man's legs and arms handcuffed to a hospital bed.
