A new criminal case was opened against activist Andrei Trofimov, whom the Konakovo City Court of the Tver Region sentenced in October 2023 to 10 years in a maximum security colony for “fakes” about the army, calls for extremism and an attempt to join the “Freedom of Russia” legion. article on public justification of terrorism, including on the Internet (part 2 of article 205.2 and part 1 of article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). This was reported to Mediazona by an activist who, through a letter from the Federal Penitentiary Service, received from Trofimov a copy of the notice of initiation of a criminal case.
The FSB department for the Tver region opened a new criminal case against Trofimov on June 6, 2024. On June 11, Trofimov received a notification about this to the address of the head of pre-trial detention center No. 1 of the Tver region, where the activist is now serving his sentence. The case is being led by investigator Sergei Erofeev.
Earlier, Trofimov wrote to another activist that Erofeev informed him about the “start of a new criminal case” on May 24. Trofimov believes that the materials under Part 1 of Article 205.2 “were ready by the operational department of the pre-trial detention center in January,” but only after the activist “infuriated the new prosecutor of the Tver region with his report in March, the process finally began.” We are talking about reports from the cell duty officer, in which Trofimov uttered the slogan “Putin is a dick,” for which he was imprisoned in a punishment cell.
The case under Part 2 of Article 205.2, according to Trofimov, was opened for the publication of his last word on the website Kasparov.ru and in the telegram channel of Alexander Nevzorov.
Trofimov was detained and arrested in May 2022 in the city of Konakovo on charges of incitement to extremism. In December of the same year, it became known that a criminal case was opened against the man for military “fakes,” and in March 2023, a case was opened for attempting to join the “Freedom of Russia” legion. The trial in Trofimov's case was held behind closed doors. On October 17, 2023, Trofimov was sentenced to 10 years in a maximum security colony.
According to the investigation, Trofimov, in correspondence with “unidentified persons,” agreed to join the “Freedom of Russia” legion and “received a plan to illegally cross the border with the aim of arriving” in Ukraine, where he was going to fight against the Russian army.
The man himself said that he completely agreed with the accusation and did not need lawyers because he did not recognize the legality of the court. Trofimov asked to assign him the maximum possible sentence.
In April of this year, Andrei Trofimov was added to the Rosmonitoring list of terrorists and extremists.
