BRUSSELS, June 28 The current head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU should invest an additional 500 billion euros in defense over the next 10 years.
“We believe that it is necessary to attract an additional 500 billion euros in the next decade,” Von der Leyen said at a press conference following the summit in Brussels .
The head of the EC explained this by the fact that in recent years the European Union has lagged far behind China and Russia in the pace of increasing defense spending.
According to her, these funds should be raised through direct funding from state budgets -members of the EU, and at the expense of the EU’s own funds.
