Opel Frontera as a crossover: sales have begun

Buyers can choose a hybrid or a full-fledged electric car. At the start of sales, the model is available in only two trim levels.

Once upon a time, the name Frontera was borne by the Opel frame SUV, a twin of the Isuzu Rodeo. And now this is the name of the compact SUV, the closest relative of the “French” Citroen C3 Aircross of the new generation. The design of the Opel Frontera crossover was revealed in April, and a presentation was held in May. Now in Europe the price list has been published and accepting orders is open.

The length of the Opel SUV is 4385 mm, width – 1795 mm, height – 1635 mm, wheelbase – 2650 mm. The stated trunk volume is 460 liters, with the second row of seats folded down this figure will increase to 1594 liters. For an additional fee, the compact can be seven-seater: in this case, Frontera will actually lose the cargo compartment.

The first modification has a 1.2 petrol turbo engine and a 48-volt electric motor built into a six-speed robotic gearbox. The hybrid has two power options – 101 or 136 hp. The electric Frontera is equipped with a 113-horsepower engine and a 44 kWh battery, with a range of “up to 305 km” according to the WLTP cycle. Later, the electric car will have a Long Range version with a range of 400 km. Note that the related Citroen C3 Aircross is also offered in a purely petrol version — it is possible that a similar option will subsequently be available for the Opel Frontera.

Now the SUV has only two trim levels. The base Edition includes 16-inch wheels, LED headlights, regular air conditioning, virtual instrumentation (10 inches), auto-braking and lane-keeping systems. Multimedia in the initial version is provided only for an additional fee; instead, there is a holder for a smartphone. A 10-inch tablet appears in the GS package; the list of equipment for this version also includes 17-inch wheels, a rear view camera, heated seats, climate control, and a blind spot monitoring system. Options include more comfortable front seats, a heated windshield and a heated steering wheel.

In Germany The Opel Frontera hybrid crossover costs from 23,900 euros (about 2.26 million rubles at the current exchange rate), the electric car will cost at least 28,990 euros (2.74 million rubles). For example, the price of the electric Citroen C3 Aircross starts at 26,490 euros (2.5 million rubles).
