The Central Election Commission adopted a new procedure for electronic voting

MOSCOW, July 3 Central Election Commission of Russia at the meeting approved a new procedure for electronic voting.
“The need to adopt a new procedure for electronic voting has been long overdue and, in particular, is due to the fact that we adopted the first such document almost two decades ago,” said Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission Nikolai Bulaev.< br>
He noted that about 15 million voters took advantage of electronic voting. The digitalization of the electoral process has stepped far forward and a lot has changed, the deputy chairman of the Central Election Commission emphasized.

The new procedure for electronic voting will give regions the opportunity to organize the voting process, taking into account the results already achieved in digitalization, voters’ preferences and other features, Bulaev added. This will create conditions for the implementation of the active voting rights of every Russian, regardless of his life circumstances. Moreover, the deputy chairman of the Central Election Commission noted, for this purpose the format of both remote electronic voting and paper ballots can be used.
“»To date, we see serious progress in the electronic voting system in Moscow, where it has combined remote electronic and the possibility of using electronic voting in polling stations, as well as the provision of more than 20 digital services,” Bulaev continued.
The deputy chairman of the Central Election Commission recalled that in last year’s Moscow mayoral elections, more than 80 percent of voters preferred the electronic voting format. In his opinion, this also confirms the objective demand of society for further digitalization of the electoral process.
In addition, Bulaev drew attention to the growing popularity of remote electronic voting, noting that about eight million ballots are printed in Moscow, but more than 80 percent of voters vote remotely. After voting, unused ballots are disposed of — over 30 tons.
