The security forces detained the former head of the Sergokalinsky district of Dagestan, Magomed Omarov, whose son was killed at the end of June as a participant in the terrorist attack. Izvestia and TASS, citing their sources, write that a criminal case has been opened against the ex-official for fraud (Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code).
According to security officials, Omarov and three other people fictitiously employed residents of Sergokala in a local newspaper from 2016 to 2022. According to Izvestia’s interlocutor, the former head of the district took their salaries for himself. The total amount of damage, according to security officials, amounted to 697 thousand rubles.
The day before, July 5, the head of the POC of Dagestan, Shamil Khadulaev, reported that Omarov was released from the special detention center after ten days of arrest, which he was assigned under the protocol of petty hooliganism (part 1 of Article 20.1 of the Administrative Code). What exactly became the reason for administrative prosecution is unknown. According to Kommersant, the ex-official was first detained on the evening of June 24.
In Derbent and Makhachkala on June 23, Orthodox churches and synagogues were shelled and police were attacked. 21 people died, including 16 security forces. On the night after the terrorist attack, NAC reported the killing of five militants.

Interfax and TASS, citing security officials, reported that two sons of Omarov were among the participants in the terrorist attack in Dagestan. At the same time, according to Kommersant, only one son of Omarov, Osman, was involved in the militant attack. He was killed by police. The Baza Telegram channel wrote that during interrogation, Magomed Omarov said that he knew about the radical views of some of his relatives.
In early July, the investigation named Osman Omarov as the creator of the group of militants who carried out the attack. Security officials claim that the son of the ex-official, together with other people, “acquired firearms and other weapons,” which they kept at home in the village of Sergokala and in Makhachkala. Three people — Magomed, Khalid and Zaur Magomedov — were sent to a pre-trial detention center in this case.
Before the terrorist attack, Magomed Omarov served as head of the Sergokalinsky district of Dagestan. On June 23, he wrote a letter of resignation, which was approved by the head of the republic. The next day, Omarov was expelled from the United Russia party.
