Fraudsters who stole money from dead soldiers were detained in Ukraine



MOSCOW, July 9 The Security Service of Ukraine announced the detention of a group that stole money from the accounts of dead Ukrainian soldiers.
“»The SBU and the National Police detained in Dnepr (before the renaming of Dnepropetrovsk by the Ukrainian authorities — ed.) scammers who stole money from the bank accounts of dead soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,» says a message published on the SBU Telegram channel.
< br />According to the intelligence service, an employee of the regional forensic medical examination bureau stole cards and mobile phones of dead military personnel brought to the morgue.

“Through these gadgets, the attackers entered banking applications and transferred money to their own accounts. In this way, the defendants also issued online loans and then cashed them out at the nearest ATMs. The scammers tried to carry out transactions as quickly as possible, until financial institutions received information about the death of the real owners bank accounts,» the SBU noted.
The department clarified that in this way the suspects embezzled almost one and a half million hryvnia (36.8 thousand dollars). The group consisted of five people. A criminal case has been opened against them under the articles “fraud”, “unauthorized interference in the operation of information and communication systems”, “forgery of documents”. They face up to eight years in prison.
