MOSCOW, July 19 Member of the Australian national field hockey team Matt Dawson sacrificed his finger to participate in the Olympics in Paris, reports 7News.
The silver medalist of the Tokyo Games, before the team left for the Olympics, broke the ring finger on his right hand and had to amputate its upper phalanx, since the healing of the fracture excluded the participation of the 30-year-old athlete in competitions in Paris.
«I had little time to make a decision. But now I can not only play in Paris, but also live a full life further,» the publication quotes Dawson.
The Olympics in Paris will be held from July 26 to August 11.
