SOCHI, July 19 Deputies of the Sochi City Assembly by secret ballot elected former vice-governor of the Krasnodar Territory Andrei Proshunin as the new head of the resort, the correspondent reports.
Forty-three deputies cast the largest number of votes in favor of Proshunin, who was chosen from the final three candidates.

Andrei Georgievich came to this position from the regional level, that is, he is familiar with the problems of the region and our city, has managerial experience in working with large territories as vice-governor. All this should help him in resolving issues of strategic development of Sochi, strengthening its socio-economic potential and supporting the population,” said Viktor Filonov, chairman of the Sochi city assembly, during the elections.
In mid-May, the administration of the Krasnodar region announced the resignation of the mayor of Sochi, Alexey Kopaygorodsky, in connection with a transfer to a new job.
Proshunin served in the internal affairs bodies from 1998 to 2011. Subsequently, he held senior positions in the administration of the Krasnodar region. Since December 2020, he has been Deputy and First Deputy Minister of the Fuel and Energy Complex and Housing and Communal Services of the region. Since December 2021, he has held the position of Minister of Fuel and Energy Complex and Housing and Communal Services of the Krasnodar Territory.
