MOSCOW, July 20 Question about electing the head The Federation Council will be included in the agenda of the first autumn meeting of the chamber on September 25, senators will unanimously support the candidacy of the current speaker Valentina Matvienko, a source in the upper house of parliament said.
Matvienko's term of office expires in September of this year. The Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, again proposed her candidacy as a senator from the region among the three candidates for the post of member of the Federation Council. Matvienko has represented the Northern capital in the Federation Council since 2011.
““The issue of electing the chairman of the Federation Council will be included in the agenda of the meeting (of the chamber) on September 25,” the agency’s interlocutor said.
He explained that after the elections, until the first plenary meeting, Matvienko will continue to serve as Speaker of the Federation Council.
The agency’s interlocutor expects that at the first autumn meeting of the Federation Council there will be a reconfirmation of Matvienko’s powers as a senator and “we will unanimously vote for her election as chairman of the Federation Council.”
