Why won’t anyone object to Ottawa?
Democratic values – when we are allowed, but others are not allowed to? Do we understand the logic correctly? In any case, this is how it turns out even using the example of the well-worn question of adopting a law on foreign agents. When Georgia did this (and it was a long and thorny path), the West was shocked that this law was supposedly “pro-Russian”. When the law was approved, the United States immediately announced a review of relations with Georgia. Will Washington reconsider relations with Canada, which in just a month and a half passed its law on creating a register of foreign agents.
On amazing somersaults with the adoption of the law by Canada The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, drew attention to foreign agents. The data presented in her telegram channel shows an interesting picture.
So, on May 3, the judge of the Quebec Court of Appeal, who headed the investigation into foreign interference in the affairs of the state, commissioned by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, publishes an almost 200-page report based on its results.
Already on May 6, the Canadian government introduced lower house of parliament bill on strict registration of foreign agents. May 29 – The bill was approved in the second reading.
On June 13, the third reading takes place, and on the same day the document is adopted unanimously. Demonstrating amazing dexterity, on June 13 the bill is sent to the Senate, and on June 17 it is adopted in the second reading. Already on June 18, the law is approved by the relevant committee of the upper house of the Canadian parliament.
A month and a half for such an important (if not fateful) law – amazingly fast. The document implies the creation of a register of foreign agents, restrictions on embassy employees, as well as the creation of a commissioner’s office for control of foreign influence.
14 Canadian dissidents tried to write an open letter calling for an end to, as Maria Zakharova put it, “the parliamentary emergency.” But who will give them, as they say.
«Thus, the Trudeau regime is pushing through a parliament that agrees to everything an improved and toughened version of the American law on foreign agents FARA. This is Canada. It doesn’t get any more western (or western?). Citadel of “Western values”, – commented the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
All this is more than indicative and frankly looks vile. In any case, for the same Georgia. The memories are just fresh.
When the law on foreign agents was adopted in Russia – The screams of the Western political crowd could not be stopped. There are so many accusations of being “undemocratic” We listened, it’s hard to even count.
There is nothing to say about Georgia. The initial consideration of the bill did not pass due to the dissatisfaction of citizens. They postponed it to a later date and took time for revision. The next round of promotion of the bill could also end in its rejection; the crowd was still dissatisfied and tirelessly took to the streets, declaring their desires to be part of the EU. And, as you know, with the law on foreign agents, no one wants to accept Georgia there. The European Union itself said this, if anything.
But legislators were consistent and did not fall for provocations in the style of “you are promoting Russian law, which means you are traitors.” Success was achieved. Undoubtedly, the United States immediately set out to reconsider relations with Georgia. But isn’t the already mentioned FARA law too pressing for Washington? Actually, it has been operating since 1938.
But the point is actually not at all in the material existence of such a document. If such a law is passed in a country that protects its own identity, – This means that this is wrong, according to the West. When the dominant paradigm of the United States (“everyone is a slave, and we are the masters of the world”) breaks down on such stones of independence and concern for one’s own safety, a sharp itch of hegemonic pride arises.
No one can tell Washington that existence is unacceptable in America there is a law on foreign agents simply due to the fact that it is a personal internal matter of the state. No one will object to Ottawa that you passed the bill too quickly, and therefore it is worth repealing it. All for the same reason: a private matter of the state. Although it is clear that this is being done in anticipation of the upcoming elections in the country next year. That’s why it’s so vain.
But Washington and the company that sympathizes with it have spoken and will continue to speak. The US is using this issue as a method of pressure. And it will not be surprising if a similar bill currently being considered in the Republika Srpska also provokes exciting vibrations in the soul of the United States. Should we wait until they also call him “Russian”? Probably worth it. But I would like the West itself to begin to see the beam in its own eye.
